Took the boys to see Star Trek this evening in Swords.  Haven't been to the pictures with them for quite a while.  Of course we smuggled in our own sweets and drinks - have you seen the prices - eight euroquid for a popcorn and drink.  While I'm typing here I'm listening to the Pope's vespers from Jordan.  My God he is a martyr.  The singing sounds like Mongolian throat singing and goes on for ever.  Earlier watched the mosque session.  I thought the speech of welcome by the crown prince of Jordan was amazing.  It was warm and full of historic facts - like the Christians being in Jordan before the muslims.  The fun highlight so far is the Prince of Jordan thanking the Pope for restoring the old Latin rite.  Who'da thunk it?  I don't really know anything about Jordan but apparently they're getting a Catholic University, which is one more than we have here.  And a beautiful new cathedral.

Where was I?  Star Trek.  I thought it was pretty damn good.  The one thing I didn't like was not unique to Star Trek.  It's this business in action movies where the action becomes some quick and so dark with a shakey camera and lights flicking around it's impossible to see or know what's supposed to be happening.  So production companies spend millions on state of the art CGI and they really might as well have two wee boys with models jumping around and shouting in a dark room cos that's all you get to see.

Guy at the top - Fr Ian Fee - read about him here.  Another class-mate.  I knew him when he only had two cupboards full of trekky stuff, not a whole room.

Vespers coming to an end - want to see the Pope getting mobbed by nuns - security had to beat them off.  Wonder who thought a bible would be a good gift.  Lot of thought went into that one.  "Eine Bibel? oh, gut, I' Bedeutung gewesenes VE, zum eins von denen zu erhalten."
